Reliable WordPress API Integrations Need More Than a Successful Request

An API call returning a successful response is only one moment in a larger operational process. Reliable integrations need ownership, retries, observability and reconciliation.

Define the source of truth

State which system owns each entity and status. Without ownership rules, two-way synchronisation can create loops and contradictory records.

Design for failure

Networks time out, credentials expire and providers change behaviour. Use idempotency, bounded retries and queues where the business process permits delay.

Make problems visible

Log useful identifiers without exposing sensitive data. Provide operators with a way to see failed work and understand whether it can be retried safely.

Reconcile important data

For payments, orders or inventory, periodic comparison can detect missed events. Webhooks improve responsiveness but should not be the only guarantee of consistency.
