A complex migration is not a copy operation. It is a controlled transition across content, URLs, users, integrations, editorial workflows and infrastructure.

Define what must remain true

List the behaviours, data relationships, permissions, search visibility and operational processes that must survive the move.

Audit the source data

Measure content types, media, metadata, taxonomies, redirects and exceptions before choosing import tooling. Unexpected variation is normal in long-lived systems.

Design verification early

Use repeatable imports, reconciliation reports and representative acceptance cases. Verification should not depend on visually checking a handful of pages.

Plan cutover and rollback

Define freezes, deltas, DNS or routing changes, monitoring and rollback criteria. A migration is safer when every irreversible step has been postponed.
